The flop:

SCENARIO 47

The flop:

You are sitting next to the button. Before the flop, Tight Ted opens the pot for $100. We look down to find:

Everybody folds to you. You decide to reraise to $300. The button and blinds fold. Tight Ted thinks about it and then calls no limit holdem.

On the flop, Ted checks.

What's Your Move?

Analysis

You realize that Ted doesn't play poker anything except premium cards, especially from early position. The nut hand on this flop is an A-Q, the only that can beat you at this point. Chances are good that Ted doesn't have A-A because he didn't reraise before the flop. It is more likely that he has A-K or possibly a pair of queens, jacks or tens. This means that you are probably going to get good action with this holdem poker game.

The Strategy We Suggest

Including the blinds, there is $635 in the pot. You and Ted each have $ 700 left. When Ted checks on the flop, move $300 into the middle. If he has A-Q. A-K or trips, he will probably push in the rest of his chips. If Ted has Q-Q, he probably will either fold or move all in. If he has any other hand, it is likely that he will fold.

SCENARIO 48

The flop:

You are sitting in the small blind holding:

Before the flop, Solid Sam limped in from first poker position for $25 and Loose Louie also limped on the button. You completed the small blind to $25 and the Bigs blind checked glossary, bringing the pot to a total of $100. After the K-J-10 flop is dealt, you are first to act in the small blind.

">What's Your Move?

Analysis

With four of you in the pot, you have flopped top pair with a good kicker and an open-end straight draw hand. Naturally you're afraid of an A-Q or a Q-9 because you know that if an opponent has one of those hands, he has flopped a straight and you're beaten. But since this is an unraised pot, it seems unlikely that someone has an A-Q. It is more likely that a Q-9 will be out. Your hand looks pretty strong. The only person you might be afraid of is the limper, who may have limped in with a big hand trying to set a trap. Remember, too, that Loose Louie likes to bet shifting thinking.

The Strategy We Suggest

You are a little bit afraid of Solid Sam, who limped in first position. Check to see what Sam does. If he bets, you have to be very cautious Because he probably has you beaten at this point, and you might need to hit the straight to winning poker. Therefore we suggest that you fold if he makes a large bet.

If Sam checks, you can be pretty sure that Loose Louie will bet. Now it's your turn to have some fun-check-raise about poker three times the size of Louie's Bet. If he bet $100, you bet $300. If he brought it in for $50, raise four times the bet to $200. If Neither Sam nor Larry bets on the flop, lead on the turn so long as the turn card game isn't scary card such as a queen.
