SCENARIO 14

You are the first to act. Your hand is the gaming money:

The blinds are $10- $25.

What's Your Move?
A. Raise to $300
B. Raise to $125
C. Move all in

Analysis

If you move all or make a large bet ($300 is a large bet when the blinds are this small), the only hands that will call you probably are aces or kings. Therefore, Option (B) is the preferred play poker.

SCENARIO 15

Now suppose Solid Sam limped in first position and Reckless Rick limped behind him. You decide to make it $175 to go. They both call. You have introduction:

They both check to you on the flop. It is:

What's Your Play?

A. Check behind them and then bet cash course on fourth street if it is checked again.
B. Move all in to protect your hand
C. Bet around $350 to see if you have the best hand

Analysis

If you bet poker $350, it would involve a huge amount of your stack, whereas checking the flop after raising pre-flop could appear to your opponents as thought poker you are trying to trap them. Option A is your safest play. If everyone checks again on fourth street, bet about $250, an amount that you hope will deceive your opponents into shifting thinking that you want them to call.

SCENARIO 16

Now suppose Solid Sam limped in first position and Reckless Rick limped behind him holdem poker game. You have the Q ? Q ? on the button. You raise four times the big blind, plus $25 for each of the limpers, making your total bet $150. Both blinds fold. Then Solid Sam reraises to $900 total. Reckless Rick folds.

What's Your Move?

A. Move all in
B. Call and look at the flop to see if a overcard comes
C. Fold

Analysis

Whenever someone limps into the pot, you should make a mental note of it. Good players will often limp in early position with strong hands, hoping that someone will raise so that they can reraise. Since Solid Sam only comes in with premium card game and is willing to invest 60 percent of his stack, he must have your queens Beaten. When he reraises, an A-K probably is the only hand that he could have that you could beat.

At this point, for you to call the raise would amount to the same thing as putting in all of your chips. Then you would have so much invested in the pot that you couldn't run away from it. On the other hand, if Sam had folded and Reckless Rick. But against Sam, you should fold ©. You always need to adjust your play to the playing styles of your opponents poker glossary.
