What's Your Move?

Analysis

You have top trips - a very strong hand but not as strong as it would be if the flush draw and gutshot straight draw hand were not on board. Anyone with seven card stud one spade in his hand could make a backdoor flush and beat you.

The Strategy We Suggest

You don't want someone who has only one spade in his hand to backdoor a flush. You cannot allow them to draw for free, so you are going to bet at least $300. You want to make then pay something to try to draw out on your hand. If you get raised, you will have to put the rest of your chips in the pot limit holdem poker.

SCENARIO 44

Suppose you started this hand with $1,000. The blinds are $10-$25. The button and the small blind limped in. After the flop the small blind checks to you.

What's Your Move?

Analysis

You now have top pair with a big kicker. It's not a superstrong hand, but there's a good chance that it is the best hand on the flop.

If someone has 10-8, 6-8, or 5-6, they would have an open-end straight draw. There also is the possibility that someone has a gutshot straight draw or a backdoor flush draw. Also, someone could hit a card game that would make an overpair to your nines cash course.

The Strategy We Suggest

After the small blind checks, we will bet $ 75, which is the size of the pot. We prefer to just win it at this point. If someone calls, you need to play cautiously you don't want to play poker a large pot with this hand.
